Walking in the wide open spaces of God's grace

My Inspiration & Your Invitation

My name is Ash Johnson.  First and foremost, I believe in God and I freely and humbly declare that Jesus is my Lord and Saviour.  I’m 31 years old.  I am wife to Kieran, mummy to Harvey and step-mum (known as “Emmy”) to Molly and Jethro.  We are a new step-family.  We have good days, we have bad days, we have fears, and together we are navigating our way through the brokenness and messiness of life.

Prior to this present chapter of my life, I was a widow.  On 2 July 2011, I married the man of my dreams, Cam Harris.  I can’t even begin to explain how Cam changed my life.  Sadly, Cam passed away of multiple myeloma on 19 August 2011.  If you’re quick to work out the math, you’ll know that’s less than seven weeks after we were married.  Cam was an inspiration to hundreds, most likely thousands, of people across the world, and most of all to me.  I was in awe of him the first time we met and my admiration for him grew deeper every day we spent together during the one year we shared.  One of the many things Cam inspired me to do, was to start journalling again.  I’m not sure how this blog will grow in future, but for a time it will express the rollercoaster and loneliness of grief that so many of us experience and explore my journey with our Heavenly Father.  I can only aspire to follow in Cam’s footsteps to write with raw honesty.  Though I’m not sure I can match the humour expressed throughout Cam’s blog (www.thewalkbeside.com), Cam was unique in his ability to always find laughter in the darkest hour.

For the blessed life that I have, for my amazing husband and my little pre-prepared family, for the cherished love I shared with Cam and for the love and grace from God, I give Him all my praise and all the glory.  I am ever-grateful.

I invite you to read, ponder and comment.  I enjoy having my thoughts and ideas explored, affirmed, expanded and challenged, so please comment freely, honestly and respectfully.

Blessings,

Ash Johnson

Hello Ash this is Kaye, Kieran’s mum. He sent me the link to your blog today and I’ve been sitting here reading it, well devouring it really, with tears in my eyes and deep sense of joy and thanksgiving in my heart for the woman you’re becoming. God is working His miracle in your life through your relationship with Cam, the tragedy of his death and the healing power of His holy spirit as he gently leads you through your grief. Thank you for sharing so much of yourself. It’s given me so far a beautiful picture of you and I’m looking forward to sharing the journey going forward. May God continue to bless you. May you continually experience His forever Love whatever the future holds for you, Ps. 136

Hello Kaye. I’m honoured that you have read my blog. Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a message and for your kind words so beautifully written. I see that Kieran shares in your gift of articulate writing. Kieran has become a true blessing to me on this journey and his presence is intrinsic in what He is working in my life. I too look forward to sharing the journey with you. In Christ we are already blessed and yet I am constantly blown away by His unrelenting love, provision and blessings. It just never stops!
